Connecting information with your experience

You can ask about terms used in an assessment, relationships between emotions and behaviour, or ways to describe your needs. Information is considered alongside your own experience. General knowledge about a difficulty does not, by itself, explain its cause for a particular person.

Professional background: Psychologist, psychotraumatologist.

I draw on the psychodynamic approach. I devote the first three appointments to understanding your situation and history, adapting the pace and tools to the nature of the crisis.

The first appointment is a calm conversation. No preparation is needed, and you set the pace.

Agreeing a practical focus

Identify an area you would like to explore, such as daily organisation, responding to pressure, communication or understanding emotions. The scope of practical support is agreed with the practitioner. If you are interested in coaching, ask separately whether it is offered and what it involves.

Choosing and preparing for an appointment

Bring questions and examples that you want to relate to the information discussed. If you have an earlier assessment, ask about reviewing its findings. When booking, explain the topic, the participant’s age and the support sought. Clarify whether the meeting is individual or includes someone close to you.
